Since launching the Beepmo iPhone application we’ve had lots of questions over the magnifying glass icons on the People and Event tabs. They’re called Beepmo filters, and we thought it might be worth an explanation to your existing and new users. When you open the People tab in Beepmo you can browse a list – sometimes a long, long list if you are at a conference – of business professionals near you. But say you ARE at a conference, and you are specifically interested in meeting executives in the venture capital industry: Beepmo makes it easy to filter the list of people accordingly.
To set a filter, simply click on the magnifying glass icon on the right side of the “People Nearby” label. You’ll see a screen like this one, with settings for Proximity, Companies, Industries and Job Titles.
The Proximity tab lets you filter by the distance someone in the Beepmo list is from you – if you are at a conference in a large city, you might wish to only browse through professionals that are really quite close, say within the conference venue. So set that at 1km.
For the Company, Industry and Job Title filter tabs you will see lists of companies, industries and job titles (respectively) of those around you; you can select one or multiple options of each. Once you have completed your filters, simply return to the people tab and you’ll only see those professionals that match your filters – note too that the magnifying glass icon is recessed, signifying that filters are on.
Event tab filters work similarly, except using Proximity and event Start Date as the categories you can restrict your browsing by. So if you only want to see events in your city that are happening in the next week, you can!
That’s an introduction to Beepmo filters – we hope you find this feature a handy tool to improve your business networking!
